Privacy Policy and Disclaimer

Your privacy is important to us. Below is some boring legal stuff, but hopefully it clarifies how we handle your information. We also make a bunch of excuses to cover our tails but that's only because some people get so upset over misunderstandings. Please contact our team if something isn't clear.

Copyright and Trademarked

On this website and all forms of digital platforms, Karen's campaign logo and all images using the logo or images of the candidate or her family are copyrighted and trademarked to the candidate, Karen Alvord, or possibly others. NO ONE has the right to use these images for any purpose without the permission of the candidate herself or other rightful owner. However, if there is a group creating an independent expenditure ad to SUPPORT this candidate, they may borrow images from this website and social media without permission AS LONG AS the material being used to support this candidate is positive and truly in the nature of supporting the candidate in a positive light. ANYONE using any of these images for creating a fake or negative website, social media platform, ads of any kind (printed or digital) that are not supportive or entirely in a positive light of this candidate, does NOT have permission to use these images, quotes, etc. and will be in violation of the candidate's rights to fully own those images, logos, photos, and quotes.

Our Campaign Team

The terms Campaign Team, Team, and Board of Directors might be used below (or elsewhere on this website or social media) to save from repeating a bunch of stuff. For these purposes, these terms typically include the candidate/Karen Alvord herself, her family, the campaign manager, all campaign staff and campaign volunteers, hired businesses and contractors, all businesses that might be helping the campaign in some way, the businesses of the people who are helping, the families of all of the above and anyone else that you think might be somehow related to the candidate or the campaign.

No Implied Guarantee

First, there is no implied guarantee associated with this website, our social media page, any ads we run, signs we make, or anything else related to this campaign. Just like we can't guarantee who gets elected in the upcoming election, we can't guarantee that Facebook, PayPal, WPEngine, BlueHost, Mailchimp, Google, Instagram, LinkedIn, Twitter, or any other third-party business that is somehow directly or remotely associated with this campaign, will work perfectly and not cause any problems. The campaign team (see above for the definition) is offering you no guarantee of any kind in relation to this website or the campaign itself. No one is liable for losses incurred through the use of the website, social media, the phone number(s), messaging, mail, email, signage, ads, and statements made or implied. Likewise, these entities and the team are not responsible for technical issues arising from your use, or anyone else's use, of these platforms both physical and digital. This campaign is an honest attempt to help get our candidate elected. Statements made on this website and on social media are not necessarily the complete representation of the candidate, her family, or campaign team, or associates. Of course, we do not intend to mislead anyone but the team might make statements on various platforms that have not been fully approved by the candidate, the campaign manager,  campaign directors, associated friends, family, endorsers, contributors, and anyone else that might care. None of the authors, contributors, administrators, vandals, hackers, or anyone else connected with this information and platforms, in any way whatsoever, can be responsible for your use of the information contained in or linked from these web pages or social media. Therefore, if you really want to know where the candidate clearly stands, you'll need to contact her directly for all clarification.

More Legal Junk about Opinions and Views Expressed

The opinions and or views expressed on the website or social media platforms related to the candidate or the campaign, including, but not limited to, our blogs and social media or digital locations, represent the thoughts of individual bloggers and online communities, and not those necessarily of the campaign or any of the team. The opinions and views expressed on these pages and other sources do not in any way necessarily reflect the views of the team, the platforms they are posted on, other sites affiliated with the site, the staff involved with maintaining the site, or any members of the site. Facebook (and similar platforms) want us to say that the opinions or views expressed on our campaign-related social media platforms are not representative of Facebook, Inc. But, this same statement goes for every other platform in use by the team. While the campaign team makes reasonable efforts to monitor and/or moderate content posted on its social media platforms and other areas of expression, we do not moderate all comments and cannot always respond in a timely manner to online requests.

It's Our Right To Edit or Delete

The campaign team reserves the sole right to review, edit and/or delete any comments it deems are inappropriate. Comments including but not limited to the following may be deleted or edited by the moderators:

  • Abusive or hurtful comments about someone;
  • Off-topic and redundant comments (this includes promotion or solicitation of events, groups, pages, Websites, organizations, products and programs not related to or affiliated with FOSA);
  • Comments that use foul language or "hate speech" (for example, including but not limited to racial, ethnic or gender bashing language);
  • Personal attacks or defamatory statements or comments (i.e., making negative personal or untrue comments about someone), instead of just criticizing his/her posting, opinion, team, or comments; and
  • Comments that violate the privacy of any individual;

Look, if you decide to be a jerk and write some mean or stupid stuff online, we have the right to remove it. This is a campaign, after all, and we don't have to leave your garbage up there. But beware...karma has a funny way of repaying jerks. Sounds like a bored lawyer wrote the next sentence. Information that is posted on any of campaign-related websites or digital platforms including social media is not intended to be medical advice (seriously?) and should not be considered medical advice, nor is it intended to replace consultation with a qualified physician or other health care provider. Also, we cannot be responsible for stupid people who do stupid things based on what they read or hear. All links to other websites found linked from campaign-related websites, social media sites, or third-party sites are provided as a service to readers, but such linkage does not constitute an endorsement of those sites by the team, and as such we are not responsible for the content of external websites. And we can't predict what a hacker might do to our website either.

When You Give Us Information

When you submit or post public content to any of the campaign's websites, digital platforms, or social media sites (e.g., Facebook post), you understand and acknowledge that this information is available to the public, and the team may use this information for internal and external promotional purposes and fundraising purposes. Please note that other participants may use your posted information beyond the control of the team. If you do not wish to have the information used that you have made available in these areas, published, copied and/or reprinted, please do not post in those areas or be a lot more careful about what you post. When you submit information via private Messenger, mail, email, phone number, or the website fill-in forms, it is the full intent of the team to keep your information private.

If you give us your email, we assume you are consenting to receive emails from us via whatever email platform we choose to use.

If you give us your cell phone number, we assume you are consenting to receive text messages or phone calls from us. This means that if we use a texting service to send you messages about Karen's campaign, we will share your number with the text message originator along with your opt-in and consent but this information will not be shared with any third parties, excluding the aggregators and providers of the text messaging service. If you don't agree then please don't give us your cell phone.

However, realize that if you are providing an endorsement, we might use it and share it in public and private on digital or physical formats, because that is what endorsements are for. You realize that your endorsement is public and visible to anyone and taking back an endorsement once it is public might practically be impossible.

Also be aware that if you are requesting a lawn sign, for example, we may add you to a list for a campaign-related team that will deliver the sign. We will not intentionally make such lists available to the public but if, for example, the sign installer trips and falls with a printed sign contact list in his hand and the wind blows it away and some jerk picks it up miles away and prank calls people on it, well...we're really gonna feel bad but there wasn't much we could do about it. If you are really concerned about this type of accidental disclosure of your information, you might want to contact the team and ask to pick up the sign in person or something like that. Again, we will attempt to keep your information as confidential as reasonably possible. If you sign up on our mailing list, we will not add you to junk mailing lists. We will attempt to keep your email confidential and not share it with others outside the team. However, it is possible that we could be hacked or a volunteer can steal or someone forgot to shred a document before it went into the garbage or something else completely unexpected can happen, and your contact info might be taken without permission. We will try to keep this from happening but if the thought of this freaks you out, you might want to play it safe and avoid signing up for anything online.

When You Donate

Donating to the campaign is a whole different ballgame. The campaign is required by the State of California Fair Political Practices Commission (FPPC) to disclose who donates to the campaign. However, it isn't required to report donations under $100 unless there is some kind of special audit that takes place, which is rare. Donations of $100 or more must be reported on special state forms that specify the name, occupation, and address of the donor. When the state or the city provides copies of these documents to requesters, the address is often redacted even though it is public information. Donations also include non-monetary contributions such as food, free printing, etc. If you don't want your name to be listed, you'll have to donate less than $100. Since each individual donor or business entity is only allowed to donate a maximum of $560 for this campaign, we'd appreciate it if your $99.99 donation was accompanied with at least four of your friend's $99.99 donations since we know you'd want to donate $560 if you weren't so afraid to be listed on the required reporting form. Better yet, please get several un-shy friends to donate the max $560 and then your $99.99 will go even further! (we are grinning and we hope you are too)  You can read the FPPC rules at http://www.fppc.ca.gov/ and the City of Roseville has campaign information, including the $560 contribution limits on the City Clerk's web page at http://roseville.ca.us/cms/One.aspx?portalId=7964922&pageId=8717406

Our Stuff Can't Be Used By You

We have a lot of photos, quotes, images, video, and other camapign-related information throughout our website, print, and digital platforms. Some of this information might be borrowed or repeated from other sources. We do not make claim of images that are not specifically about the candidate himself and in cases where we re-post photos or video from newspapers, TV, etc. then those re-postings should be obvious and we do not make claim to own those images and you'll have to contact those sources if you want to use those images. However, the images of our candidate that are not obviously belonging to someone else are not for you to borrow, use, or steal without permission of the candidate herself. The campaign and the candidate retain the ownership rights of all candidate quotes, photos, etc. that we post and while you can share them using the typical share features of the same social media platform they reside in, you cannot use them off the website without proper permission (see the first section above for better details).

What We Forgot and How to Contact Us

We are sure we forgot something. Therefore, if there is something obvious that is missing here in all this rhetoric, let's assume that you are a reasonable person. We are not going to try to trick you and we hope you are not going to try to trick us. If you have a question, please contact us. You can reach the candidate at (916) 784-0240 or you can reach the team at Team @ VoteKarenAlvord.com (remove spaces before using that email address). Clear as mud?
